  • The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) has reported on the conclusion of Acclimate, a four-year project dedicated to climate change adaptation. The culmination of the project’s work, a regional strategy for climate change adaption, was adopted by the IOC’s 28th Council of Ministers on 17 January 2013, in the Seychelles.
  • The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a report, titled “Climate Change, Impacts and Vulnerability in Europe 2012: An Indicator-Based Report,” which identifies observed impacts in Europe, including: sea level rise; ocean acidification; northward expansion of some species; decreased river flows in southern and eastern Europe; increased flood incidence; establishment of alien plant species; reduction in forest growth; reduced heating...
  • Switzerland and Peru are collaborating under the World Meteorological Organization's Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) on a project to improve climate services for the Peruvian Andes. The project will also incorporate generated data into environmental decision-making in the agriculture, energy, tourism, transport, health and education sectors.
  • The reports highlight that improving energy efficiency in operations, products and services, and the increased use of renewable energy are key priority action areas for business to support the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative, while they also emphasize that industry-wide standards should be developed as well as new financing mechanisms to overcome risks associated with the suggested action areas.
