  • The European Environment Agency (EEA) released its “Annual Management Plan 2013” outlining the EEA work programme which will address a broad range of issues including: air quality and noise; air pollutant emissions; climate change mitigation; climate change adaptation; energy; and transport.
  • A report prepared for the Nordic Working Group for Global Climate Negotiations (NOAK) finds that synergies between climate change adaptation and mitigation can foster a more efficient, responsive and comprehensive climate policy.
  • The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a US$87 million grant to support the Government of Mozambique in developing a climate change-resilient economy and to scale-up high impact nutrition interventions. Mozambique's climate change development policy operation aims at supporting policy reforms that enable long-term growth and climate-proof development plans.
  • Thailand has received two technical assistance grants, funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) and administered by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), to support water and flood management, and to assist with accounting and financial management reform in the railway sector.
  • The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) has reported on the conclusion of Acclimate, a four-year project dedicated to climate change adaptation. The culmination of the project’s work, a regional strategy for climate change adaption, was adopted by the IOC’s 28th Council of Ministers on 17 January 2013, in the Seychelles.
  • CIF has reported on the implementation of Mozambique's US$100 million strategic programme for climate resilience.   • The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP Risø Centre (URC) December’s newsletter includes stories on the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project and electrification in Africa, including efforts within the Sustainable Energy For All Initiative (SE4ALL). The newsletter also features several stories on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), including capacity building projects in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) region.
  • Nine "Lighthouse Activities" were celebrated at the Doha Climate Change Conference as pioneering initiatives yielding benefits for the urban poor. The activities demonstrated the multiple benefits of addressing climate change through adaptation and mitigation activities, and transforming misperceptions about taking action on climate change.
  • The UNFCCC Secretariat has achieved its aim of full climate neutrality by the end of 2012, through emission avoidance and reduction, plus an offsetting scheme using Adaptation Fund (AF) Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) for the remaining balance. The UNFCCC Secretariat encourages other UN agencies and intergovernmental organizations to do the same.
